Being An Amazon

Being An Amazon

As a young girl I struggled with finding the beauty in myself that everyone tried to convince me I had. Like most teenage girls I was guilty of comparing, over analyzing and envying those I deemed beautiful. I was so distracted by others definition of beauty I nearly let mine waste away.

The word Amazon comes to mind, a word I would associate with big, fat or just the huge mass that was my body. If I had taken the time to dig into the true meaning of this classification of women I would have found that an Amazon is a legendary race of female warriors. Greek mythology tells us that Queens of the Amazon were radiant, possessing strong bodies, long thick legs and all the speed and strength of any other warrior, male or female.

The most notable and time relevant Amazon warrior is none other than Wonder Woman herself. A woman so incandescent she was able to conquer any and every obstacle that came her way. Present day Urban dictionary describes us as very tall and strong women.

So in my 20’s I embody all that is being an Amazon, I am tall, I am strong and I am a queen. And as for any woman reading this, remember this post next time you are scrolling down your IG timeline comparing yourself to that petite IG model.

Sincerely,

Keiko Michelle
